Can I Hire More than One Maid?

When it comes to keeping your home spotless while taking care of your family, it requires a significant amount of time and commitment. With Singapore’s fast-paced environment, working parents or individuals have to seek for an alternative to maintain their household. That’s where maid agency services in Singapore come in. Over the years, the number of foreign domestic workers in Singapore has increased from over 50,000 in the year 1990 to over 250,000 in June 2020. This goes to show that about one in five Singapore households hires a maid to help them with the house chores, cooking, and taking care of the household. As Singapore gradually reopens, working parents are returning to the office while students return to school, leaving households with elderly persons in need of extra help to manage it daily. This shows that there’s a growing dependence on foreign domestic workers. Ahead, we’re sharing some of the reasons to hire a maid.

Reasons to hire a maid

Convenience

The most significant reason for you to hire a maid from Philippines, Indonesia or other countries is to get the help you need so that you can juggle your time between your family and work. When you have an extra pair of hands to help manage the household, you can set aside some time for yourself and be productive without having to worry about house chores. Not only that, but you also get to spend time with your family, especially if you have young children who need unlimited attention. And on days you feel like reading a good book or indulge in some ‘me’ time, having a maid to help with the household gives you the freedom to do just that.

Detail-oriented work

Many people dread the idea of spring cleaning but it’s one way to keep the house clean and tidy. But for families with young children and elderly parents at home, cleaning can be a challenge. One way to overcome this challenge is to hire a maid. When you hire a helper from a maid agency in Singapore, you can expect their work to be detail-oriented. Maid agency services like Homekeeper provide pre-employment training to maids before they’re deployed to work for you. This may give you peace of mind as your maid will employ proper cleaning techniques, giving your house the attention it deserves.

Helpful for homes with kids or elderly

If you have young children or elderly parents at home, you know that kids tend to leave a mess which you have to clean afterwards. And if you have both in your household, it’s double the work. Hiring a maid for elderly parents or your young child will certainly reduce your workload. Not only that, but maids are also trained to use the right products to clean your house and know how to deal with stubborn stains, giving you a clean and hygienic home. That said, this begs the question of whether you’re permitted to hire more than one maid. Back in the day, when you had more than one maid, it signifies your family’s affluence. But, in today’s context, hiring more than one maid simply means giving your maid the extra help you both need. Well, here’s what you need to know about hiring a second maid.

Can I hire a second maid?

The process of hiring a second maid is similar to that when you hired your first maid. However, you can only hire a second maid if you fulfil the requirements set by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). According to the MOM, you may be allowed to hire a second maid if you have any of these family members living with you:

  • At least two children below 18 years old
  • A parent or parent-in-law over 60 years old.

Not only that, but the ministry will also consider whether you can provide ample sleeping space and privacy in the house for your two maids. If you fulfil these requirements, you’ll need to submit a Work Permit application and provide the relevant information to support your request. Do note that every household can hire up to two maids.
